Connally Independent School District

Flyover

Superintendent's Update

Greetings Cadets!

I opened my last newsletter with a comment about how unpredictable Texas weather can be. The forecast for this week certainly affirms those sentiments. After experiencing the fun of warmth this past Saturday, it appears that we have several days of bitter-cold weather headed our way this week. As always, Connally ISD will monitor the forecast and remain in consultation with the National Weather Service to ensure that our students can safely make it to school.

We had a great time opening the doors of the Connally ISD Administration Building to members of our community at last week’s Senior Citizen Valentine’s Luncheon. Guests were given the opportunity to view presentations from various campuses - including a fantastic sing along from students at the Connally Child Care Center! It was incredibly fulfilling to watch as our community members got to engage in fellowship with one another as they bonded about what was going on in their school community. Each attendee was escorted into the luncheon by one of our Modern Gentlemen or Classy Cadets before they were treated to a delicious meal prepared by students enrolled in the Connally High School Culinary Arts classes. Several guests left the event with beautiful flower arrangements that were crafted by students enrolled in the newly established CHS Floral Design program. I sincerely hope that everyone had a fantastic time, and I look forward to finding more ways for the school district to connect with ALL of the members of our community.

The Spring Semester is by far the busiest time of year in a school district. Our various extracurricular teams and service organizations are busy with practices, games, and large events. From blood drives to after school rehearsals to playoff games, there is always something going on! I encourage you to take a moment to read each campus newsletter so that you can stay up to date with all of these fun happenings.

Our next Intervention Friday is scheduled for this week on February 21. Students who are required to attend intervention classes have been notified already. A full copy of this year’s instructional calendar can be found here.

The Connally ISD Board of Trustees will meet this evening at 6:30 for their regularly scheduled monthly meeting. A special meeting will be held at 6:15 tonight to review the annual Texas Academic Performance Report. Board meetings are open to the public and often begin with exciting recognitions of the various staff members and students who go above and beyond when representing the Cadet Standard. This is going to be a great week of school - rain or shine!

Spotlight: Communicating School Closures

School Closure

As we navigate this next snap of cold weather, please make sure that you are aware of how Connally ISD communicates information regarding school delays and closures. The district works hard to make decisions based on the most updated information from the National Weather Service. Oftentimes, district officials will personally drive each of the roads in our district in order to determine whether or not they are safe to travel on.

Any school cancelations due to bad weather will require the district to update its instructional calendar in order for students to make up the time missed due to a closure.

Federal Report Cards Are Now Available For Viewing!

Each year, district and campus-level data are analyzed by the Texas Education Agency and other governmental bodies to determine areas of success and room for improvement. These data points - which include test scores broken down into individual demographic subpopulations - can be viewed in a school's annual Federal Report Card.

The Federal Report Card for Connally ISD (as well as all of our individual campuses) for the 2023 - 2024 school year are now available for view. You can find them at this link.
