Principal's Update:

Welcome back to another great week! Thank you to all of the family and friends who joined us last Thursday at our Valentine's Day parties to celebrate! We always enjoy seeing the students' excitement over having visitors come into their classrooms!

Our 3rd grade students will be participating in a practice STAAR benchmark test on Tuesday, February 18th. It is very important that your student arrive to school on time. Please ensure that your student gets plenty of rest the night before and either eats breakfast at home or arrives early enough to eat breakfast in the cafeteria.

Teachers will be reaching out to parents for a middle of year parent teacher conference to discuss academic progress and goals. Please make sure you set up an appointment with your child's teacher.

Flu Season is Here!

The peak of the cold and flu season is upon us. To prevent widespread flu in the school, we recommend that your child stay home from school if experiencing flu or cold symptoms.

To decide whether or not to send your child to school, please consider the following guidelines:

Monitor your child for any of the following symptoms:

Very stuffy or runny nose and/or cough
Mild sore throat (no fever, no known exposure to strep)
Headache
Mild stomach ache

Definitely keep your child at home for treatment and observation if they have any of these symptoms:

Fever (greater than 100 degrees by mouth--your child may return to school only after their temperature has been consistently below 100 degrees by mouth for a minimum of 24 hours without the use of medication)
Vomiting (even once)
Diarrhea
Chills and
fatigue with discomfort, weakness, or muscle aches
Frequent congested (wet) or croupy cough

To help prevent the flu and other colds, teach your children good hygiene habits:

Wash hands frequently with soap and use hand sanitizer when they do not have access to a sink to wash their hands
Do not touch eyes, nose, or mouth
Cover mouth and nose when sneezing or coughing
Use a tissue to blow their nose followed by washing hands after throwing it away
Avoid close contact with people who are sick.

Colds are the most contagious during the first 48 hours. A child who has a fever should remain at home until "fever free" for a minimum of 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medication.
