Greetings Cadets!
As Mother Nature promised, the cool weather is not over yet! Last week, we experienced a taste of spring weather but just as quickly returned to the winter chill. However, the weather works well with our Senior Citizen Valentine’s Lunch menu on Wednesday, February 12th. Our Culinary Cadets are preparing various soups to warm our guests' souls. We have students getting ready to present the fabulous things our students are doing in Connally ISD. We are excited to open our doors and welcome our guests!
This week, we have several sporting events throughout the district. The softball game scheduled for tomorrow night has been moved up to tonight to avoid the colder and wetter weather forecasted for tomorrow. They will play Waxahachie Life in Waxahachie this evening. According to the tournament bracket, they will play again this week in the Midlothian Heritage tournament beginning on Thursday.
The high school boys' basketball teams will play their last district game against Robinson at home. This game will indicate the team's position in the playoffs. It is also Senior Night for the seniors on the varsity team. We encourage everyone to come out and be loud and period for our Cadets!
The baseball team is scheduled for a scrimmage tomorrow in Groesbeck and another Friday in Hillsboro. They are not the only ones braving the colder temperatures; the boys’ soccer team will play Marlin tomorrow at MacPeoples Stadium. The junior varsity and varsity track teams will compete in the Cougar Relays in China Spring, the first track meet of the year. Bundle up and come out to support our Cadets this week!
The Connally Early Childhood Center, Connally Primary, and Connally Elementary schools are hosting Valentine’s parties this week. The specific dates and times are in the campus newsletters.
Looking ahead, there is a meeting for parents who have students identified as dyslexic. The meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, February 18th, from 5:30 to 7:00. During the meeting, participants will participate in a simulation activity that gives insight into what your child experiences as a dyslexic student. I have been the parent of a dyslexic child. This activity was eye-opening to what my son experienced in an academic setting. I encourage parents of dyslexic students to make plans to attend this meeting.
The next regular school board meeting is scheduled for Monday, February 17th, at 6:30. A special meeting to review the Texas Academic Performance Report (TAPR) is scheduled for the same date at 6:15.
As a reminder, there is no school this Friday, February 14th. We hope everyone enjoys the day off and a fabulous Valentine’s weekend with loved ones!
Warm regards,
Jill Bottelberghe
Superintendent
