Connally Independent School District

Connally Early Childhood Center Update

Week of 2/10/2025 - 2/14/2025

Principal's Update:

Greetings, CECC Families.

We will have some fun celebrations this week at school. On Wednesday students are invited to celebrate the 100th Day of School with us by dressing up like they are 100 years old, or by wearing something with 100 items on it! On Thursday we will have our Valentine parties. We look forward to having parents in the building for that. We ask for only two adults per child to attend due to space limitations.

Attendance at school is so important. Understandably many students have been out due to the flu and other illness recently, but we really need to get our students back in the building so that they do not fall behind academically. We miss your kids when they are not here!

In the Academic Tips section below you will find information about pre-k and kindergarten skills that our students are currently working on, and easy ways you can help them at home!

Have a wonderful week.

Academic Tips!

Kindergarten students are currently learning how to subtract. You can help them at home by giving them a few objects, telling them to take a certain number away, then asking how many are left. Next, have your child write the number sentence. An example of this would be to put six beans on the table. Have your child take away two beans then tell you how many are left. Then ask your child to write the number sentence which should be, 6-2=4. Here is a picture of students using linking cubes in math class to practice this skill!

Pre-K students are continuing to work on rhyming words. This can be a tough skill to learn but once they've got it, they've got it. Rhyming can be easily practiced in the car when running errands or even on the way to or home from school. Say a word such as, "top," and ask your child to name a word that rhymes with top! Ask questions such as, "Do bat and cat rhyme? Do log and pig rhyme?" Using picture cards such as the ones below are an easy way to practice rhyming words as well.

Special Recognitions!

This week's Feature Teacher recognition goes to Mrs. Rodriguez, one of our amazing kindergarten teachers! Mrs. Rodriguez loves her students and they love her!

We are also happy to recognize these two students for making great choices at school!

Attendance

The best way to get your child off to a great start is to make a commitment to have them at school every day. Good attendance is a strong predictor of future academic success. We are busy every minutes of the day in Pre-K and Kindergarten with learning and we do not want your child to miss out on anything!
