Happy Red Ribbon Week Cadets!
Connally ISD campuses are recognizing Red Ribbon Week by participating in various dress-up days, campus presentations for our students, and a Red Ribbon parade. The Red Ribbon campaign started in the mid-1980s in response to the murder of DEA Agent Enrique Camarena. Agent Camarena pursued those who were bringing drugs into our country. He was kidnapped and tortured, and his body was later found in Mexico. People across the nation started wearing red ribbons as a symbol of their commitment to raise awareness of the damaging impact drugs were having on American society. To learn more about Red Ribbon Week, please visit www.redribbon.org. It is never too early to begin talking to your children about the dangers of drugs!
It is hard to believe, but we are closing out the month of October this week. Our volleyball season has ended, but girls' basketball will be in full swing beginning on Tuesday, November 5th, with a home opener against Mexia. The football teams have two district games remaining in their season. They will play La Vega this week. The freshman and junior varsity will play at home, and the junior high teams will play at La Vega on Thursday. The varsity team will play at La Vega on Friday with a 7:00 p.m. kick-off. Friday’s game is crucial, as it will determine what place our Cadets will take in the district as they enter the playoffs.
Everyone should set a reminder this Saturday to set their clocks back one hour. Daylight savings ends at 2:00 a.m. on Sunday, November 3rd. It is often easy to forget, and we don’t want anyone waiting for the bus an hour earlier than they need to!
Have a great week Cadets!
