Superintendent's Update

Happy Spring Cadets!

As we approach the end of the year, the campus calendars fill with activities across the district. I highlight many celebrations and activities, but I cannot always highlight everything happening in our district. As always, I encourage you to visit the newsletter link below for news and activities from each campus. So many things are happening at the campuses, and I don’t want you to miss out!

Last week, the Connally Early Childhood Center hosted a grandparent picnic lunch for its Pre-K students. Students were encouraged to invite their grandparents to eat lunch with them. We enjoyed the sunshine with a bit of a cool breeze. This week, our kindergarten students are inviting their grandparents to lunch on Tuesday. What an excellent way for our grandparents to spend special time with their grandchildren.

Last week, our high school Cadet band participated in the Blinn Concert and Sightreading contest. All of the judges rated them as a 1, which is the highest a band can achieve in competition. They will compete again this week at Midway. We are all very proud of our band and the growth they have experienced under the guidance of Dr. Mosby. The dedication of our directors and the band members is undoubtedly making a difference. They sound fabulous!

Our junior high track athletes will compete at the Lorena Leopard Relays this afternoon. Next Monday, they will compete in the district track meet at MacPeoples Stadium, the final junior high athletic event of the year. This Wednesday at Lorena is the next track meet for these high school athletes.

Our baseball and softball teams are at the beginning of their district schedules. This week, they will both play Robinson. On Tuesday, they will play at Robinson, and on Friday, they will play at home. Friday, our baseball team will recognize our Lacy Lakeview Little League teams.

Also, Elena Estrain and Daniel Escobedo represented Connally High at the UIL State Cross-Examination (CX) Debate competition in Austin over the weekend. Although they did not make it to the Saturday round of competition, it is still a huge accomplishment to make it to the state level of any competition!

This Friday, March 28th, many more of our high school students will begin their journey to what they hope is the state-level academic competition. Our high school Academic UIL students will compete in the District 23-AAAA Academic Meet at Connally High School. We look forward to sharing news of our academic successes next week!

There are only two more Fridays on our calendar for students assigned to attend for additional intervention instruction. These dates are Friday, March 28th, and Friday, April 4th. ALL students will attend school on Friday, April 11th, and Friday, April 25th. This ensures our students have adequate opportunities to take the state-mandated STAAR test in the specified content areas.

The Connally School Board will meet tonight for the March regular board meeting. The meeting will begin with recognition at 6:30 p.m. As a reminder, there is a school board election on Saturday, May 3rd. The final date to register or change your address for the May election is next Thursday, April 3rd.

Thank you for continuing to stay up to date with Connally ISD!

Sincerely,

Jill Bottelberghe
Superintendent

Do you know a stand-out educator at Connally? We often know of teachers who positively impact their students, school, and community, but we don’t know how we can recognize them for all they do. Tropical Smoothie Cafe hosts a Sunshine For Teachers Recognition, where a lucky nominee will win a dream vacation or many other prizes. So, nominate a teacher who has positively impacted their school community, embodied joy in all that they do, and goes above and beyond to inspire others! All nominations are due by April 1, 2025.
