Connally Junior High School Update

Week of 9/30/2024 - 10/4/2024

Principal's Update:

Dear Connally Junior High Families,

Stay Connected with Your Student's Progress: Skyward Parent Portal

At Connally Junior High, we believe that a strong partnership between home and school is key to student success. We encourage all parents and guardians to stay involved and informed about your student’s grades, attendance, and behavior through our Connally ISD Parent Portal – Skyward. This easy-to-use platform allows you to monitor your student’s academic progress and stay on top of any concerns throughout the school year.

What Can You Do to Stay Engaged?

  • Check Skyward Regularly: By logging into Skyward, you can view your student’s grades, attendance records, and behavior updates. If you need help with access, please contact the school office for assistance.

  • Ask About Their Day: A simple conversation about school each day can provide valuable insights into your child’s learning and social experience. Ask them about their favorite subjects, what they learned, and any challenges they might be facing.

  • Communicate with Teachers via Apptegy: Open lines of communication are critical for addressing academic concerns or celebrating your student's successes. Use the Apptegy platform to easily send messages to teachers, ask questions, or request updates. Our teachers are here to support your child’s learning journey.

  • Encourage a Positive Learning Environment at Home: Support your child by setting aside time for homework, creating a quiet space for study, and offering praise for their hard work. A positive attitude towards school at home helps students stay motivated and reinforces the importance of education.

Need Help with Skyward or Apptegy?

If you need assistance setting up or navigating the Skyward Parent Portal or the Apptegy communication platform, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our front office. We’re happy to help you stay connected and informed!

Thank you for being an active part of your child’s education. Together, we can ensure that every student has the support they need to thrive both at school and at home.

Spotlight:

Last week, Mr. Clark's ELAR students dove into an engaging and interactive lesson focused on vowel and consonant recognition. To reinforce these foundational skills, students were introduced to a unique activity that assigned a value of 5 cents to vowels and 10 cents to consonants. Their task? Break down words by identifying the vowels and consonants, then add up the total value of the letters to determine the "cost" of each word.

This hands-on learning experience encouraged both individual work and collaborative problem-solving. While some students tackled the challenge independently, others took to the classroom’s Smart TV, working together to break down words and calculate their values. The collaborative spirit didn’t stop there—students stepped up to help each other, taking the lead at times to teach their peers or correct mistakes.

"I was so proud of my students for stepping up, taking initiative, and working as a team," said their teacher. "They showed real leadership and made sure everyone understood the outcome of the lesson."

This creative approach not only strengthened the students' understanding of vowels and consonants but also fostered teamwork, communication, and leadership skills in a fun and interactive way.

Junior high school students (grades 6-8) must not be dropped off at any event without an accompanying adult present 100% of the time during the event or for the entire duration that their child is present.
