Connally Junior High School Update

Week of 9/2/2024 - 9/6/2024

Principal's Update:

Greetings CJH Family,

We are excited to start another week here at Connally Junior High! It has been a great start to the new school year, and we are grateful for your continued support and involvement in our school community.

This week, we have several important activities and updates to share with you:

Math Parent Night (Tonight September 3rd at 5:00PM):

We are excited to invite all parents to our upcoming Parent Math Night, where we will be discussing our new math curriculum, Carnegie Math. This event is a great opportunity to learn about the changes in math education and discover how you can best support your student’s learning journey.

During the evening, we will explore:

  • How and why math education has evolved.

  • Strategies to help your student succeed in math.

Carnegie Math is designed to offer a rigorous and engaging learning experience for students, focusing on critical thinking, problem-solving, and real-world applications of mathematical concepts. Through interactive lessons, technology integration, and collaborative learning opportunities, Carnegie Math equips students with the skills they need for success in their current math classes, future academic endeavors, and beyond.

Don’t miss this chance to connect with our educators and gain valuable insights into your student’s math education. We look forward to seeing you there!

Intervention Friday (September 6th):
This Friday, we will hold our first Intervention session of the year. All students received their Intervention letters today, and a copy has also been mailed to your home if your child is required to attend. Please ensure that you review the letter carefully.

House Bill 1416 Parent Permission Form:
Along with the Intervention letter, you will find a copy of the House Bill 1416 parent permission form. This document allows you to share any concerns you may have about the student-to-teacher ratio during Intervention. Your feedback is important to us, so please take the time to read and return this form.

Enrichment Opportunities:
For students who are not required to attend Intervention, we are offering limited spots in our Enrichment sessions. These sessions will cover exciting topics like art, coding with drones, and working with robots. Please note that students who are invited to Intervention will not be eligible to participate in Enrichment activities.

Thank you for your attention to these matters. We look forward to another productive and positive week here at Connally Junior High.

6th Grade Math Spotlight:

Last week in 6th grade math, students focused on Triangles. One thing students had to learn was that the sum of the two shortest segments has to be greater than the largest segment in order to construct a triangle. To have a more hands-on experience, students used pasta noodles to create these triangles. They followed specific instructions that guided them to break apart the pasta into 3 pieces, measure them all using centimeters, record their data, determine if their pieces would construct a triangle or not and then trade their pasta pieces with members of their group so they could measure theirs and fill out the table provided. Students were really engaged in this lesson and enjoyed using the pasta as a manipulative and a visual.

8th Grade Algebra Spotlight:

8th grade math students made family trees in algebra to see how the relationship between generation and ancestors increases exponentially during our sequences unit.
