Connally Junior High School Update

Week of 12/9/2024 - 12/13/2024

Principal's Update:

Greetings CJH family,

The holiday season is a time for generosity and community, and we are proud to support the annual Connally ISD Food Drive. We invite our families to join us in spreading joy by donating non-perishable food items or monetary contributions. Donations can be dropped off at our campus, and the drive concludes tomorrow, December 10th. Together, we can make a meaningful impact on the lives of those in need during this special time of year. Thank you for helping us bring hope and joy to our community this Christmas season!

As we reflect on the importance of community, we also want to highlight the strong partnerships we strive to build with our families throughout the year. At Connally Junior High, we know that collaboration between the school and home is essential for student success. Our Parent and Family Engagement Policy outlines how we work with parents and guardians to support our Cadets’ academic and personal growth. This policy details our commitment to fostering meaningful family involvement, including open communication, shared decision-making, and access to resources to help families stay informed and engaged.

We encourage you to review the full policy attached to learn more about how we can work together to create the best possible learning experience for your child. Thank you for being such an important part of our Connally Junior High family! The junior high parent and family engagement policy can be found on the link below:

Also, we would like to mention that we are now accepting nominations for our Gifted and Talented (GT) Program. If you believe your child demonstrates exceptional abilities and would like them to be considered for GT testing, we encourage you to reach out.

Please contact Mr. Jonathan Shaw, Associate Principal, at 254-296-7700 for more information or to begin the nomination process.

Connally Junior High Prepares Students for College Success with AVID and Campus Visits

At Connally Junior High, we are dedicated to ensuring our Cadets are equipped with the skills and opportunities they need to succeed beyond their middle school years. One of the ways we achieve this is through our AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) program, which focuses on preparing students for college and career success by emphasizing organizational skills, study habits, goal setting, and critical thinking.

AVID empowers students to take ownership of their education by instilling a college-going mindset and providing tools to succeed in rigorous academic settings. It’s more than just academics; AVID fosters confidence, collaboration, and a belief that every student can achieve their dreams.

This year, we’ve been thrilled to bring the AVID experience to life by introducing our Cadets to local college campuses, such as Baylor University, McLennan County Community College (MCC), and Tarleton University. These visits give students a first-hand look at college life, from touring dormitories and lecture halls to interacting with college students and learning about academic programs.

Our goal is to plant the seeds of ambition early, inspiring students in all grade levels—from 6th to 8th—to envision themselves pursuing higher education. Whether it’s walking the scenic campus of Baylor, exploring MCC’s technical programs, or hearing about Tarleton’s wide array of student organizations, these trips provide invaluable insight into what’s possible for their futures.

As you browse through the group photos from these visits, we hope you’ll see the excitement and curiosity on our Cadets’ faces. These experiences are made possible by our commitment to ensuring every child is college-ready and supported through the AVID program and beyond.

We’re excited for more opportunities to visit additional campuses in the months ahead and to continue building a culture of college readiness here at Connally Junior High. Thank you for supporting our Cadets in dreaming big and striving for success!

Let’s keep preparing our Cadets for a bright future—college-bound and unstoppable!
