Dear Connally Junior High Families,
I’m excited to share with you more about the AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) program we proudly implement here at Connally Junior High! As an AVID campus, our mission is to equip every student with skills that extend beyond academics and prepare them for lifelong success. AVID empowers students to stay organized, take effective notes, and think critically as they plan for their futures—whether that means attending a college, university, or exploring military service.
Central to AVID’s approach is the WICOR framework, which emphasizes Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading. These essential strategies are woven into daily classroom activities across all subjects, helping students build strong study habits and deep learning skills. Through WICOR, our students learn how to analyze information, ask meaningful questions, work with their peers, and understand complex texts. A well-organized binder with dividers for each subject is a key component of AVID, as it helps students keep track of their work, notes, and assignments. We encourage parents to help support this organization at home, as it’s a vital part of fostering independence and readiness.
We’re committed to teaching these qualities because they are not just skills for school—they are skills for life. We want every parent to feel confident in the tools we’re providing, so please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions about AVID or WICOR strategies. Together, we can make a tremendous difference in our students' lives.
In sports news, we’re wrapping up an exciting football and volleyball season and gearing up for basketball! Next week, we’ll kick off the season with our 7th and 8th-grade girls’ teams, who will play their first game against Gatesville. We look forward to cheering on our athletes and showcasing their hard work and dedication.
Thank you for your continued partnership in your child’s journey at Connally Junior High. Let’s keep working together to make this school year a great one!
