Connally Junior High School Update

Week of 10/7/2024 - 10/11/2024

Principal's Update:

Dear Connally Junior High Parents,

At school, we work hard to support your child’s academic and personal growth, but the partnership between school and home is key to helping them succeed. Here are a few simple things you can do at home to support your student:

  1. Create a Structured Homework Routine
Set aside a quiet, consistent time each day for homework and review. Encourage them to complete their assignments independently, but be available for support if needed.

  2. Check Grades and Attendance Regularly
Use Skyward to stay up to date with your child’s grades and attendance. This helps catch any potential concerns early, and it shows your child that you are engaged in their progress.

  3. Encourage Reading Daily
Whether it’s a book, magazine, or even an interesting article online, reading helps improve comprehension skills and keeps their mind active. Aim for at least 20 minutes of reading each day.

  4. Talk About School
Ask specific questions like “What was the best part of your day?” or “What did you learn in math today?” to encourage conversation. Showing interest in their learning reinforces the importance of education.

  5. Promote a Healthy Sleep Schedule
Middle school students need about 8-10 hours of sleep each night. Ensure they’re getting enough rest to focus and perform well in school.

  6. Stay Positive and Encouraging
Celebrate their achievements, no matter how small, and offer support when they face challenges. A positive attitude toward learning at home goes a long way in helping your student stay motivated.

Thank you for your continued partnership in your child’s education. Together, we can help them succeed both inside and outside of the classroom!

Warm regards,

Spotlight:

Enrichment students that attend on Intervention Fridays explored the fascinating work of artist Peter Anton, known for his larger-than-life food sculptures. We focused on understanding proportion and scale to inspire our own creations. Working in groups, students selected a food item as their subject and used found objects to construct an armature as the foundation for their sculptures. After building the base, they covered it with tape and plaster. Next week, they’ll bring their sculptures to life by adding paint, texture, and finishing details. It’s been a fun and creative process that will continue next Intervention Friday for the Enrichment students.

Junior high school students (grades 6-8) must not be dropped off at any event without an accompanying adult present 100% of the time during the event or for the entire duration that their child is present.
