Principal's Update:

Spotlight on Carnegie Math: A Transformative Journey in Math Education

Dear Cadet families,

This year, Connally Junior High School proudly adopted a new math curriculum, Carnegie Math, designed to engage students and inspire deeper understanding through creativity, critical thinking, and real-world problem-solving. While the transition to this innovative curriculum was a learning process for both students and teachers, the results have been nothing short of remarkable.

Since implementing Carnegie Math, we have seen an increase in student and teacher enthusiasm during math lessons. The curriculum’s interactive and hands-on approach encourages collaboration, exploration, and a love for learning. Whether it's through group projects, technology-integrated activities, or creative problem-solving tasks, our classrooms are buzzing with energy and excitement.

Teachers have embraced the curriculum’s emphasis on making math more relatable and meaningful for students, using real-world scenarios to help connect mathematical concepts to everyday life. Meanwhile, students are enjoying the opportunities to collaborate with peers, tackle challenges, and see how math applies to their world in fun and practical ways.

In this week’s spotlight, we are thrilled to share photos and stories from our math classrooms, showcasing the incredible learning and creativity taking place since the start of the school year. From engaging activities to collaborative projects, these snapshots highlight how our Cadets are growing as problem-solvers and critical thinkers.

We are proud of the strides our students and staff have made together, and we look forward to continuing this journey of discovery and achievement in mathematics. Stay tuned for a glimpse into the exciting world of Carnegie Math at Connally Junior High!

Parent Supervision At School Events

Connally Junior High requires that all parents or guardians escort and chaperone their children to all Connally ISD activities, including athletic games at both the junior high and high school levels. Junior high school students (grades 6-8) must not be dropped off at any event without an accompanying adult present 100% of the time during the event or for the entire duration that their child is present.

Spotlight:

The 7th-grade team, led by Mr. Lloyd, designed an engaging activity to explore multiple representations of linear functions. Each group of students started with one representation—a situation, table, graph, or equation—and worked collaboratively to develop the other three. The activity culminated in students creating colorful, informative posters to showcase their work. This hands-on approach not only deepened their understanding but also made learning fun and interactive!

Ms. Kingsley’s 6th grade advanced math students had an unforgettable experience as they dressed up as surgeons to tackle challenging Order of Operations problems in a hands-on, engaging lesson. The classroom was buzzing with excitement, and students shared how much they enjoyed the activity, calling it “a blast” and declaring Ms. Kingsley the “best teacher ever!”

What a creative way to make learning both fun and memorable!
