Connally Junior High School Update

Week of 1/06/2025 - 1/10/2025

Principal's Update:

Greeting CJH Families,

Happy New Year! We are excited to begin a fresh semester and ready to work hard as we approach testing season. The spring brings several testing and intervention opportunities to help measure student growth and identify areas where additional support is needed.

During January, students will take their Middle of the Year (MOY) MAP tests in math, English language arts, and science. These results will be compared to their Beginning of the Year (BOY) MAP tests to measure progress. Additionally, all 8th-grade students will take the TSI (Texas Success Initiative) reading test, and our 8th-grade Algebra I students will take the TSI math test. The TSI is designed to assess college and career readiness.

Please note that we will have school every Friday in January. Toward the end of the month, you can expect to receive updated intervention letters. We ask for your help in encouraging students to perform their best on these assessments, as the results will guide us in determining the level of support each student may need. Support opportunities include Intervention Fridays, WIN Time during the school day, and tutorials before and after school.

We’d like to emphasize that even students who are passing their classes or performing well on tests can benefit from additional support to ensure they reach their maximum potential. Thank you for your continued support and partnership as we work together to help our students succeed!

Spotlight:

On Thursday, December 12th, Connally Junior High hosted its 3rd Annual STEM Night!

This engaging family event celebrated science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) with hands-on activities, exciting exhibits, and opportunities to explore how STEM applies to everyday life and future careers. On a junior high campus, STEM education provides students with opportunities to develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration skills. By integrating these disciplines, students gain real-world experiences that prepare them for high school, college, and beyond.

The evening featured an incredible lineup of student projects, teacher-led activities, and partnerships with local organizations and businesses. Families enjoyed a fun-filled night with opportunities to win prizes, explore exhibits, and even relax in the Badcat Extreme Mobile Gaming Truck, a highlight of the event. To top it off, food trucks were on-site, offering delicious and unique dinner options for everyone to enjoy.

We were proud to showcase partnerships with the following organizations and businesses:

  • TSTC Digital Media

  • Badcat Extreme Mobile Gaming

  • Figley Creative

  • Seen and Loved Studios

  • Wild Designs 3D Printing

  • Cameron Park Zoo

  • Baylor University Cyber Range

  • Fallas Autonation

  • Region 12 STEM

  • Central Texas Astronomical Society

  • Brazos River Authority

A huge thank you to all of our students, staff, families, and community partners who made STEM Night a success! Events like these highlight the importance of family engagement in education while inspiring our students to explore new ideas, embrace creativity, and dream big.

We look forward to seeing you at our next event!

Parent Survey:

At Connally Junior High School, we value your partnership in your child’s education. This year, we introduced the Carnegie Math curriculum, which focuses on building critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and real-world applications for math. As we continue to refine and improve how we implement this program, your feedback is incredibly important to us.

We’ve attached a short survey to gather your thoughts about the curriculum and its impact on your child’s learning experience. Your input will help us better understand what’s working well and where we can make adjustments to ensure student success.

Please take a few minutes to complete the survey by January 6th. Thank you for your time and for being an integral part of our school community!
