Connally Early Childhood Center Update

Week of 5/05/2025 - 5/09/2025

Principal's Update:

Greetings, CECC Families!

This week is a special week as we are celebrating Teacher Appreciation Week! CECC is blessed to have great teachers who love our students. I hope that you will help us make every teacher feel appreciated and celebrated this week!

In addition to celebrating teachers, Tuesday, May 6th is National Nurse's Day. Nurse Downing does a tremendous job of caring for both students and staff at CECC. We hope she knows how much we appreciate her!

On Wednesday and Thursday of this week we will have our Field Day events at Mac People's Stadium. This is always a fun time so I hope that you will come out and enjoy the events!

This week pre-k and kindergarten students are continuing to take end-of-year assessments. It is important that students be at school every day so that they do not miss these important tests. Last week kindergarten finished up the reading assessments and they have shown amazing growth. We look forward to seeing the math results soon!

Finally, I'd like to let everyone know about a way to get assistance with school supplies! Scan the QR code below!

Have a wonderful week!

From the Counselor

Creativity is the character trait we're learning about in the month of May! One way to think about creativity is “using your imagination to create something new or solve a problem.” Opportunities to be creative are all around us! How can you find ways to be creative as a family this month? Here are three ideas!

1.  Get creative with expressing your emotions through a game of emotion charades! Gather as a family and brainstorm some feeling words. Write them on slips of paper and turn them facedown. Then, take turns choosing a slip of paper and acting out the emotion (assist with reading as needed). Other family members will guess the emotion that is being acted out. After each person’s turn, take a moment to talk about what we may need when experiencing these emotions.

2.   Review creativity as a family. Creativity is using your imagination to create something new or solve a problem. This challenge is about creating something new - together! Find a large cardboard box and unleash your creativity as you work together to create something totally new. What can the box become? Perhaps it will be a spaceship, an ice cream shop, a fairy castle, or a race car. Use any craft supplies or scraps on hand and your imagination to turn an ordinary box into a new creation!

3.   Set aside some time to gather as a family and check in with each other. Ask each family member, “How are you feeling today?” Practice honesty when responding and listen carefully as each family member shares. Use the emotion check-in questions to learn more and practice creativity to come up with a new question to learn more! Challenge yourselves to check in with each other on a regular basis!

  Emotion Check-In Questions:

● Tell me more about that feeling.

● Why do you think you are feeling that emotion?

● What do you need right now?

Academic Tips!

Keep reading and writing at home! This will be important to do between now and when the kids start back to school in August! They have made so much progress this year, and allowing them opportunities to read and write at home will help them to continue to grow and not lose ground during the summer months!

Special Recognitions!

Our most recent Feature Teacher is Ms. Jana Lukas. Ms. Lukas serves as our interventionist, working with students in small groups to improve their skills. We are very thankful for her.

We are also proud of these three students for earning a Positive Behavior Referral!

Attendance

The best way to get your child off to a great start is to make a commitment to have them at school every day. Good attendance is a strong predictor of future academic success. We are busy every minutes of the day in Pre-K and Kindergarten with learning and we do not want your child to miss out on anything!
