Connally Independent School District

Connally Early Childhood Center Update

Week of 4/28/2025 - 5/02/2025

Principal's Update:

Dear Parents,

This week students will begin taking the End-of-Year assessments which will show us how much growth each student has made. This is an exciting time because they have worked hard all year. We cannot wait to celebrate their growth and see how much they have accomplished between August and the current time! That being said, please make every effort to get your child to school each day so that they do not miss out on these important assessments.

Next week we look forward to celebrating our teachers for Teacher Appreciation Week. Our Fill the Fridge donation continues, so if you'd like to leave a snack for teachers to enjoy during the week, just drop it on the table in the front office!

Be sure to make note of our upcoming field days. Pre-K will have field day on May 7th and Kindergarten will have field day on May 8th. This is always a very fun, and tiring, day for everyone!

Finally, if you have a kindergarten student, be sure to mark your calendar for kindergarten graduation. It's hard to believe that date is coming so quickly.

Have a wonderful week.

From the Counselor

Creativity is the character trait we're learning about in the month of May! One way to think about creativity is “using your imagination to create something new or solve a problem.” Opportunities to be creative are all around us! How can you find ways to be creative as a family this month? Here are three ideas!

1.  Get creative with expressing your emotions through a game of emotion charades! Gather as a family and brainstorm some feeling words. Write them on slips of paper and turn them facedown. Then, take turns choosing a slip of paper and acting out the emotion (assist with reading as needed). Other family members will guess the emotion that is being acted out. After each person’s turn, take a moment to talk about what we may need when experiencing these emotions.

2.   Review creativity as a family. Creativity is using your imagination to create something new or solve a problem. This challenge is about creating something new - together! Find a large cardboard box and unleash your creativity as you work together to create something totally new. What can the box become? Perhaps it will be a spaceship, an ice cream shop, a fairy castle, or a race car. Use any craft supplies or scraps on hand and your imagination to turn an ordinary box into a new creation!

3.   Set aside some time to gather as a family and check in with each other. Ask each family member, “How are you feeling today?” Practice honesty when responding and listen carefully as each family member shares. Use the emotion check-in questions to learn more and practice creativity to come up with a new question to learn more! Challenge yourselves to check in with each other on a regular basis!

  Emotion Check-In Questions:

● Tell me more about that feeling.

● Why do you think you are feeling that emotion?

● What do you need right now?

Academic Tips!

Our tips for the remainder of the school year are to read as much as possible and to write as much as possible. This is a sample writing piece taken from Ms. Ochoa's kindergarten class. She was working with her students on finding facts within the text they read, and writing about those facts! This type of writing can very easily be done at home. All you need is paper and something to write with. Both pre-k and kinder students should be encouraged to write!

Attendance

The best way to get your child off to a great start is to make a commitment to have them at school every day. Good attendance is a strong predictor of future academic success. We are busy every minutes of the day in Pre-K and Kindergarten with learning and we do not want your child to miss out on anything!
