Connally Early Childhood Center Update

Week of 2/24/2025 - 2/28/2025

Principal's Update:

Greetings, CECC Families!

This week we will host our bi-annual coin drive. This drive raises money to put books in the hands of our students. See the graphic below to know which coins to send which day!

Speaking of books, our students are busy learning to read! Letting them read to you at home, reading to them, or reading together is a very powerful way to help them grow as confident readers.

Every morning we kick our day off right at 7:30 am. Pre-K and kindergarten students very quickly engage in a Shared Writing lesson. This lesson is brief but teaches them several important skills about how to become good writers. It's important to have your child at school on time every day so they don't miss out on this lesson! Check out the picture of the pre-k and then kinder example below!

Have a great week!

From the Counselor

Coming up in the month of March we will be learning about the character trait of cooperation. One way to think about cooperation is “working together to reach shared goals.” As a family, talk about how this definition applies to how you work together at home. What are some goals you share? Cooperation is one of three traits we will focus on throughout the year that helps students be kind.  Have some fun connecting as a family this month while practicing cooperation! Here are three ways to practice:

1. This week, plan a time where everyone needs to work together to accomplish a shared goal like cleaning up the space you live in or making a meal together. Make sure everyone has a role to play with specific tasks. When the project is complete, discuss and celebrate how each person’s part was important to the end result.

2. Review cooperation as a family! Search through your cupboards for some board games your family has not played in a while, or grab a deck of cards for a simple game of Go Fish. Pop some popcorn and have fun playing together! Look for moments of cooperation that you can point out. For example:

● Choosing which game to play

● Choosing who gets to go first

● Handling wins and losses

● Working together to solve a problem

3. Find a time to sit in a circle together and celebrate all the ways you have seen each other practice cooperation. Take turns sharing responses to the following prompts or make up your own! Remember to practice cooperation as you take turns and listen to each other.

Celebration Prompts:

● Which family member(s) do you want to celebrate for their cooperation this month?

● Share how you practiced strong listening this week.

Academic Tips!

Kindergarten students are working on sight words every day. Sight words are words that we see often in text and that students should be able to quickly recognize. One way to practice them is to use flashcards, but then ask the student to use the word in a sentence. Here is a picture of Ms. Stevens' students saying the word, making a sentence with the sight word, and sharing the sentence with a partner!

Pre-K students are working on counting every day. A great way to practice counting at home is to give your child several items to count. You could use beans, cereal pieces, Legos, pennies, etc. Let them touch and count each item.

Special Recognitions!

We are extremely proud to recognize pre-k teachers, Jennifer Bailey, Desiree Sosa, and Melanie Brown, who all earned the Teacher Incentive Allotment Master designation! They were able to earn this designation because of their commitment to excellence in the classroom! We are so proud of you!

This week's Feature Teacher is Ms. Michelle Hebert! Ms. Michelle, as she is known by our students, is a wonderful kindergarten para. Ms. Michelle has worked in Connally ISD for many years and is a great asset to our campus!

Attendance

The best way to get your child off to a great start is to make a commitment to have them at school every day. Good attendance is a strong predictor of future academic success. We are busy every minutes of the day in Pre-K and Kindergarten with learning and we do not want your child to miss out on anything!
