Connally Independent School District

Connally Early Childhood Center Update

Week of 1/27/2025 - 1/31/2025

Principal's Update:

Dear CECC Families,

Welcome to a new week. We are always excited for Mondays to see our students after the weekend.

Last week we were busy finishing up our middle-of-the-year assessments. Pre-K completed the Circle test and kindergarten completed the MAP tests. I am extremely proud of the growth that both grade levels have shown! Your students are learning so much and their teachers are working hard.

I hope that everyone will make note of the sight word list below in the newsletter. Practicing a few words every day is a great way to help your child become a proficient reader. Don't forget to also read to them and to let them read to you at home!

Have a great week!

From the Counselor

This month’s focus is honesty. One way to think about honesty is “being truthful in what you say and do.” Practicing honesty helps strengthen our relationships and reduce stress.  Have some fun connecting as a family this month while practicing honesty. Some ways to do this include:

1. Review honesty as a family. Honesty is being truthful in what you say and do. Discuss the importance of being honest and work together to create a Family Honesty Pledge. Create and decorate a sign together that explains what honesty means in your family. Have each family member sign the pledge and choose a spot to display it. Refer back to the pledge as a reminder to be honest and to celebrate when honesty is practiced!

2. Set aside some time to gather as a family and check in with each other. Ask each family member, “How are you feeling today?” Practice honesty when responding and listen carefully as each family member shares. Use the emotion check-in questions to learn more. Challenge yourselves to check in with each other on a regular basis!

Emotion Check-In Questions:

● Tell me more about that feeling.

● Why do you think you are feeling that emotion?

● What do you need right now?

3. Create a simple sign with some feeling words or faces/emojis. Create a space where your family can see the feeling words or faces in one place near an entrance of a space. Each time someone walks through the entrance this week, have them tap the emotion they are feeling and name their feelings honestly. Work together to help regulate or manage those emotions to be more confident, calm, or focused.

Academic Tips!

Learning sight words is a critical part of learning to read. Parents you can help your child so much by practicing a few words each day at home. As your child learns each word, keep adding new words to the list.

Attendance

The best way to get your child off to a great start is to make a commitment to have them at school every day. Good attendance is a strong predictor of future academic success. We are busy every minutes of the day in Pre-K and Kindergarten with learning and we do not want your child to miss out on anything!
