Connally Independent School District

Connally Early Childhood Center Update

Week of 1/20/2025 - 1/24/2025

Principal's Update:

Good Afternoon,

We had a great week last week. We spent the week doing middle-of-the-year assessments in reading and math for both pre-k and kindergarten, and will continue those assessments this week. We are proud of every bit of growth our students have made!

I would like to encourage parents of both pre-k and kindergarten students to read with your child every day. It does not have to take long. In fact, their attention spans are short so reading for ten minutes is very appropriate for their age. As your kindergarten students learns to read more and more, let him/her read to you! For both pre-k and kindergarten, start asking them questions at the end of the book about what happened in the story. This helps to build comprehension skills!

Have a wonderful week!

From the Counselor

This is our last week to focus on the trait of perseverance. Talk with your child about something that he/she is trying to learn to do that may feel difficult. Encourage them to keep trying and pushing themselves to reach their goal!

Academic Tips!

Learning sight words is a critical part of learning to read. Parents you can help your child so much by practicing a few words each day at home. As your child learns each word, keep adding new words to the list.

Special Recognitions!

We have a lot to celebrate this week. At the school board meeting on January 13th we recognized pre-k and kindergarten students, paras, and teachers of the month! We also recognized four students who had perfect attendance during the fall semester. These students won free bicycles! Finally, our newest Feature Teacher is Mrs. Jennifer Bailey. Mrs. Bailey teaches pre-k and is an amazing teacher. Congratulations to everyone!

Attendance

The best way to get your child off to a great start is to make a commitment to have them at school every day. Good attendance is a strong predictor of future academic success. We are busy every minutes of the day in Pre-K and Kindergarten with learning and we do not want your child to miss out on anything!
